Kuromeru was born in the Rain Village. However, her parents were killed and there was no room for orphans in the small village. She was about 7 years old when this happened and as such, she has no memory of her parents actual death. Only that they died and the villagers looked down on her with disgust. So, she began to walk. She walked out of the village gates and continued to walk away into the great unknown.

Eventually, Kuromeru couldn't go any further and thus, collapsed on the ground. When she woke up, she found herself in a bed, in a strangely shaped and decorated room. A man who appeared to be between young and old, walked in the door with a bowl of hot water and a wash cloth. Kuromeru sat up and the man pressed her gently back down on the bed. He placed the wash cloth on her forehead and explained that she was in Kumogakure, one of the great ninja villages. He also explained how he found her collapsed in the middle of the road and picked her up and brought her here. The man handed her some food. She ate it gratefully.

Kuromeru stayed with the man. He owned a small shop in Kumogakure and Kuromeru helped him around the shop. She even continued to help after joining the ninja academy with all her friends. She did exceptionally in the academy. She gained many admirers. Even though she had the choice of the lot, she never got into any kind of relationship with anyone. She was holding her heart for that special someone that would one day come and steal her breath.

As a genin, Kuromeru went on many missions. Her team started with the classic missions genin get, chasing cats, locating lost trinkets. It was during this time that she began to wonder who her parents were as the other kids seemed to be coming into their Kekkai Genkais. Kuromeru wanted to know if she had any special abilities like that. She voiced her concerns to the man who rescued her. He then handed her a small book that explained who her parents were. The book itself being written by them. It appeared to her that they knew that being a ninja for the Rain Country would eventually lead to their deaths and they wanted to make sure that she knew that she had parents that loved her.

Kuromeru was so moved by the novel that she vowed to find out more about her heritage. So, when she became chuunin, Kuromeru set out for the Rain Country. There she learned of a great shinobi that was a good friend to a previous leader. He actually built the leader's arm that he quickly became known for. She learned that this man was her great great great grandfather. She also found out that his name was Nigel Uno, founder of Youseigakure, a village he built himself that has long since fallen to ruin.

Kuromeru traveled to the site where Youseigakure once stood. The site showed evidence of a grand city that once stood there. She eventually found Nigel's grave. It gave direction that should his descendants ever find this place that they should place their finger in a curious hole in the grave stone. Kuromeru placed her finger in the hole but, quickly pulled it out as she was met with a sharp pain. The grave opened up to reveal stairs that led down into darkness.

Kuromeru walked down the stairs and when she reached the bottom she found a crystal altar. But what shocked her the most was the inscription. "Here sleeps Nigel Uno" Kuromeru gazed upon the face of her ancestor. The curious thing was that the inscription suggested that this man was still alive. However, there was another book at the altar.

This book described Nigel's life as well as containing instructions on several jutsu and medical experiments that he created and performed. Nigel was known as a great medical scientist but, Kuromeru learned that his experiments were extremely controversial and he probably wouldn't have been hailed as such a great scientist if they knew about these experiments. Kuromeru then encountered a message to the reader. It described a sword and a vial. The sword and vial lay before her on the altar like the book did. The book described the amazing properties the sword held and instructions on how to handle the pain of the substance of the vial. Following the instructions described by the book, she injected the substance into her temple.

Kuromeru's head explodes in massive pain as the substance went to work on her DNA. When the pain subsided, she found that she could see everything. She saw every detail of each stone in the wall, each spec of dust that floated in the room, along with many other details. Kuromeru then picked up the weapon. She looked at the blade of the weapon and could see the chakras that Nigel had infused into the metal. The book also described the process of chakras smithing that he was less known for. Kuromeru could even see the life within the blade.

Kuromeru placed this weapon upon her back. She then left the site, taking the book with her. She would not release Nigel as the book described his involvement in a group that held much of the shinobi world in a terrible grip of evil. Kuromeru now knew who she was. She was the daughter of Lilly and James, Descendant of Nigel Uno, the great Automail smith.
