Konoha Open tournament - Match one

The day was fine and the stadium was opened to the general public and other countries to allow for the competitors skills to be shown to the people who would be hiring them for missions. Most people were here for the later matches of the Jounin however this was not to defer the fact that people still wanted to see what this generation of ninja can do.

The area of the arena was grassy with 12 trees spread around the entire area. The contestants were standing in the waiting area except Renjiro who was acting as the ref for the tournament was waiting in the middle of the arena with a microphone in his hand. He took a deep breath in and shouted out into it "HELLLOOOOOOOO AUDIENCE!! ... TODAY IS THE DAY WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FORRR THHEEE KONOHAAA TOURNAMENT!!!!" he paused as the crowd in and around the arena as well as from all around Konoha screamed out towards Renjiro or to their radios/televisions. "Organised by myself and sponsored by the Konoha council .. and to be the ref for this part of the tournament WE BRING YOU THE GREATEST OF THE GREAT ... THE CRÈME DE LA CRÉME ... THE ONE AND ONLY MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! ... he laughs as the crowd goes nuts with excitement. "I'm only joking ... I'm not the best but I'm up there ... and I'll be here to try and make sure these young ninja don't die" he takes a sip of drink and looks around the stadium to see all the spectators "Now i think i have gone on long enough ... AND NOW WE HAVE OUR FIRST MATCH CLOU--" Renjiro pressed against his ear as he was informed of a few things "I have just been informed of a few changes to the line up guys and girls Ailanna Yakush, Osamu Rimaka and Thurogood Jinkins have been disqualified due to failing to check in however do not be sad or dishearten ... I can personally guarantee the match coming up now will amaze you all ... Both hailing from a long line of Konoha ninja we have ourselves some budding stars ... Don't miss a moment of it ... WE HAVEEEEEE HANA KURODA VERSES GAEUL HATAKE!" he presses his earpiece to also broadcast to the waiting room "Could both Hana Kuroda and Gaeul Hatake both make your way out of the waiting room and through the corridor to the arena" Renjiro pressed his earpiece again to stop broadcasting to the waiting room. "PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER AND MAKE MASSES OF NOISE FOR OUR FIRST COMPETITORS" he then pointed using both hands towards the door to his right "WOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Hana was sitting in the waiting room with the other genin. She saw some familiar faces as well as some not so familiar. She recognized Sasori and Clous. Clous was a swordsman as well. She wondered if she'd be able to win against him. That would be awesome. It would be good practice as well to fight another in the art of the sword.

Then there was Sasori. Now Hana had no idea as to how to counter his sand. His sand was powerful. Not to mention she just wasn't sure she'd survive in that match. Seeing as how Sasori was emotional and unpredictable she really didn't want to fight him even if he would give her a challenge.

There were two more guys that she didn't know. She guessed they were genin as well since their age. She wondered if she could fight them and win. Seeing as she knew nothing about them. But that would also be an advantage to herself seeing as how they wouldnt' know what she was capable of either.

Hana then listened to the crowd going wild as the referee excited them. She sweatdropped at some of his antics. He seemed a bit high up on himself. She sort of hoped he would lose to someone just so his ego would be bruised. But then again people that bragged of their skill usually had skill. Or if they didn't they were just idiots. Though a man that hosted a tournament couldn't be an idiot could he? Well not completely she supposed.

The voice continued on while Hana's excitement grew. She grinned widely once her name was called. She stood up as her body shook with such excitement. The young girl brushed the hair out of her face and took a deep breath. Her blond locks ended up in her face again as she began walking through the corridor.

Who was Hatake Gaeul? What kind of techniques would he or she use? Considering he was an Hatake that would most likely mean Raiton element. She'd never gone up against Raiton. She wondered how she would counter such skill. Well she would just have to make it up as she went along.

She exited the corridor into bright blinding light. Camera's flashed and the crowd went wild at the first match. Since of course they should have had a few more matches before this one. Hana hoped she wouldn't disappoint them. She went to stand by the ref. The man was pretty tall. She knew nothing about him either. Though she hoped he would be fair with his refereeing.

Hana waited for her opponent to show up...

The sound of the crowd gathered in the arena was deafening. He had never really been in a social gathering this large—it was amazing to see this many people in the village gathered there just to see some fledging Genin fight. He knew that they were probably more interested in the Jounin matches later, but… still, this many people? Gaeul couldn’t quite remember how he had found out about the tourney, but he had and had been convinced to sign up for it by some of his dad’s friends. When he got the notice about the tournament details he found himself unable to recognize or identify anyone on the list—at all.

Of course, when he actually showed up for the tournament he thought that maybe he might know some of the Genin after all; just that maybe he didn’t know their names or anything. Not true. He didn’t recognize a single face. Everyone there looked older than him too. It was a little surprising to find that there were hardly any female Genin among them as well. He had figured there’d be more than the scant two, er one that was there. Vaguely, Gaeul wondered how skilled each of the Genin there were. He assumed that since most of them were older than him they’d be more advanced than he was.

He really needed to interact more with the local Genin. I suppose I’m starting on that now, aren’t I? thought Gaeul to himself as he walked down to the arena. For the most part, he didn’t respond to the crowd. He merely kept walking from the waiting room down to the arena floor with his hands in his pockets. Ever since the ref had called out his opponent’s name he had tried to see if he could think of anything that could link back to her—but nothing did. The only thing he could recall was that some of the guys at Ming’s seemed to like her or something. That was about it. So… maybe she’s popular with guys?

As the ref’s voice went on, he wondered just how good the guy was. As far as he knew, he’d never heard of the guy before. But he must be something if he managed to get this tournament in somehow. There’s not a lot of people who can just pull off a tournament like this. For the crowd that watched him, no one could really figure out what he was thinking, seeing as he had on the trademark Hatake mask that covered the lower portion of face and most people couldn’t make eye contact with him long enough to determine anything.

Kuroda Hana… what’s she like? As he stepped forth into the arena with the barely visible fog in play, he remembered a rumor that he’d heard: something about the Hokage training a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes—a Genin. As his eyes settled on her, he noticed the match up. But it couldn’t be true, could it? It was just a rumor wasn’t it…? A Genin… trained by the Hokage himself?

He shook his head lightly, the excitement and adrenaline that normally came with tournaments wasn’t really affecting him. Gaeul was still relatively calm. He’d never been in tournaments before, nor watched any, so he wasn’t quite sure if this was the right thing to do or not, but… he took out his right hand and held out to the girl. “Nice to meet you. I’m Hatake Gaeul.” The softness of his voice surprised even him, and maybe the innocence in it that even he could detect. Had it really been that long since he talked to anyone remotely around his age? Or another human being? Had she even heard him?

The fingers in his left pocket tapped away at his skin lightly. He was getting a little bit nervous, but not because of the upcoming fight. It was more so because of the fact that he had just realized this was the first time in a long time that he was interacting with people, asides from Ming’s (which wasn’t much considering most people didn’t take the time to talk to their delivery boy). Ahh I suppose I should’ve worn something more combat-ready, considered Gaeul, noting that he was in his atypical formal attire.

[[OOC: Ano, sorry for the wait. I was at a party today... just got back awhile ago. Might be a bit busy this week too. I apologize before hand for possible delays to this RP.]]

Renjiro awaited the pair to come out of the waiting area and as they both met each other either side of Renjiro he looked between the two of them. "Today you two are not friends, not clansmen and not comrades. Today you show us all what you are made of. You show us all that you have progressed beyond the level of a freshly graduated Genin. The rules are simple ... Don't die ... I will try my best to interfere if either of your lives look in extreme danger however do not rely on this. If you feel the situation is life threatening submit and surrender ... there is no disgrace in knowing when to give up if it means saving your life." He jumps to his left away from the pair.

"Ladies and Gentlemen ... The rules have been explained and the arena checked and cleared for battle. The match is Hana Kuroda verses Gaeul Hatake. BEGINNN!!! Renjiro jumped up at high speed up into the high topped spectator area which was cordoned off for VIPs and Renjiro.

'I wonder what these two will bring to the table'

[OCC: this match is now OCC due to intervention by the staff team and the PO for this is hana then gaeul. i will interject when i see fit :P]

Hana eyed the boy as he came out to the arena. From what she could see he was quite handsome. She remembered reading about Hatake Kakashi in History of Legendary Ninja Class. Her and the other girls of the class either deemed themselves team Kakashi or team Sasuke. Hana of course was all for team Kakashi as well as team Lee. For some reason she was the only girl on team Lee...

She mentally shook herself and sized him up. He wasn't muscular like Eiji or some of the other genin boys she had met. He seemed a bit frailer. Though he politely wanted to shake her hand. She herself smiled and took his hand. "Nice to meet you too! I'm Hana. I can't WAIT to fight you," she said excitedly.

Hana looked up at the man with a look of distaste. That was something she really didn't want to hear from the jonin. What he should have said in her opinion was to bring honor to yourselves, keep it a clean fight, remember you are comrades but dont' hold back. Simple as that. She should have been running the show herself. Though she decided to keep these thoughts to herself. She needed to keep her head in the game. Her mind immediately went to plans for what was to come.

Hana was already reaching for her sword as he yelled "Begin". She decided to start off the fight with the drawing sword technique. Battou! She drew her sword in such a way that it would be hard for the eye to track. She aimed for his right arm. Hoping to cut it deeply. They were only a meter or so apart as they were face to face. Whatever he did Hana would be ready since her sword would be out for either attacking or blocking any throwing weapons. Once she slashed with her sword she would back up and give them two meters of room. That way if the Hatake threw anything at her or used any jutsu she would have time to counter.

The young girl would then throw some kunai and wait for the other to either dodge or block them. While he was doing so she would use her next attack.

The girl sure seemed excited about fighting him. He supposed she was a bit of a tomboy? Had he not been paying attention to Hana he probably would’ve never noticed her hand reaching for the sword by her side. Gaeul barely managed to avoid most of the blow from her sword in time. From the way she holds it… she’s experienced with Kenjutsu. Guess my tanto’s outta the question since I only know the basics. The sleeve of his shirt was cut open, revealing a thin line across his arm. For the moment it didn’t sting too badly. Almost immediately after he felt the rift in his shirt she was gone, as was he. She had moved away two meters and he one.

Gaeul knew he had to make a move at some point, but he wanted to get a feel for her abilities first. It wouldn’t do him much good if he just charged right in with an attack only to find out she was more than capable of deflecting it. He already knew that close range attacks probably wouldn’t be a good idea right about now, but what else was she capable of? Close range combat, huh?

An idea snapped in his head that he more or less implemented while moving back another meter as he saw the incoming projectiles. The day wasn’t particularly bright and there was already a faint fog in the arena, so why not make it harder to see? The girl must be a close range person, so if he could either keep away from her or keep her from reaching him he’d have an advantage right? That’s what he’d been thinking when he moved back and to the side to dodge the kunai whilst forming a hand sign.

He knew the arena was big, probably at least five meters in radius, and he could only cover about a meter and a half in radius… but if he stacked the jutsu twice he could cover a three meter radius around him. And that’s exactly what he did. Thick, blinding fog like mist flowed over the arena, reaching the arena wall behind Gaeul to roughly a meter away from Hana if she hadn’t actually moved towards him while he was moving away to doge her kunais.

Gaeul waited in the middle, careful to keep quiet as the mist fully developed on the outer fringes, making another hand sign. After a few seconds of this, he carefully moved away from her, towards the trees that were roughly a meter away from the walls themselves and settled himself up into the tree’s branches. Whilst doing so, he littered the ground about the tree with all 20 of the makibishi he carried.

Patiently waiting aside, he wondered if she’d dare to come into the mist or if she was even capable of fighting him on her senses alone. He knew sight wasn’t going to be of much help here. And he was familiar with this jutsu—after all, he had developed another technique from the basis of the two jutsus he just used because of the no visibility this technique provided. That and he had no real intention of coming out.

Should she come within sight of his range there would be a small hail of shuriken at her from high up in the tree. He hoped she wasn't familiar with this jutsu. Kirigakure no Jutsu was a staple of his that he often found advantageous, giving him the edge he needed. And maybe, if she could see or something, she might able to see his silver white hair playing peek-a-boo in the lower branches of the trees through the mess of leafy greens and obscuring mist.

“Known Jutsu Utilized”:

[[OOC: Due to a rather massive gap in stats (with Hana having 140 and me having 20) her stats are capped at 5 per field, or else Gaeul can basically be killed with Hana walking up to him and just giving him a punch.]]

Hana rushed towards him as he used the hidden mist technique. She stopped though once he disapeared. She wasn't stupid enough to go into the mist. The young girl stood in thought for a moment. "Okay, I can't just go into the mist. i have no wind jutsu either. How can I get rid of the mist without wind jutsu? I don't have ANY jutsu that would be able to get rid of it. Do I have any items?" Hana thought a bit longer before smirking and pulling out five kunai and five exploding tags. She tied each tag to the kunai and threw them towards the middle of the mist.

She deducted that he'd only be in about three meters of the mist. So she could deduce where the middle would be where she could blow the mist away. She threw all five near the same position in the mist. After a few moments the explosion pushed the mist away.

She'd made the exploding tags go about a meter to two meters away from each other. That way she could hopefully hurt the girl as well. If that happened she would be hitting two birds with one stone. She bit her lip as she waited for the mist to clear.

To her surprise Hana hit the base of a tree with one of the bombs. The impact knocked the boy out of it. For him to land on his own makibishi would hurt. She winced but didn't wait for him to get up. She used her drilling finger bullets to keep him busy while she ran at him with her sword.

She used Ha to blind him with her sword for a moment. This would give her more time as she got closer. Then she would slash with her sword. She aimed to just stop right before cutting his throat. She wouldn't though. If he didn't move quickly enough she could stop him by just point it at his throat. He would then have to submit. If not, well if he moved too fast her sword would his his right shoulder. Piercing it and hopefully wounding him.

The explosion was unexpected. At least it didn't actually destroy the mist though, it just spread the mist out, a lot. The mist had spread so that it was more or less useless to use as cover, expect for perhaps the patches in the shadows of the arena's walls. Though, with his tell-tell hair he doubted she'd have trouble picking him out. The mist was all about the arena in odd little patches. Some were small, others were big. The small patches were the most dense whilst the larger patches were the thinnest. Yep, his mist was useless right about now.

“Nngh…” winced Gaeul as he tumbled out of the tree and onto the ground—thankfully away from his makibishi seeing as he was higher up in the tree and didn’t suffer from the full impact of the exploding tag-bound kunai. That wasn’t to say he had escaped uninjured though. He had several rifts in his clothes now, and he was sure that were splinters about in his skin too, but he couldn’t quite tell for sure. All he knew was that he had had the wind knocked out him and his body was sore all over. Now, the impact from Hana’s weapons hadn’t hurt him initially (he felt sorry for the Bunshin though, even if it really couldn’t feel anything), it was the falling-out-of-the-tree-and-landing-on-the-ground part. He had managed to get into a crude sort of rollout, but that hadn’t saved him from all the thwacking the tree branches did.

And just as soon as he had been able to gather his senses and start to get to his feet, she used some kind of jutsu on him that forced him to drop dead and roll over before he could (painfully) jump to his feet only to get blinded by something. He hadn’t thought there was enough light to emit something that blinding, but he was wrong. He could still hear though. And what he heard was her footsteps fast approaching him. He had to think fast. Moving back meant he’d be trapped to the wall—something he didn’t quite want. So where? To the side? He couldn’t really see and he knew his makibishi were still in play somewhere to his left. The right then? More trees. So what? Forward? Hell no.

Up.

The corners of his lips raised up in a grin as he utilized one of this techniques. Jumping up, his feet easily found the all too familiar disk of ice and he continued moving higher up, over Hana’s reach in the nick of time. Looks like working for Ming paid off. He had just remembered how he had dodged the crowds while running deliveries for Ming and implanted it without much thought.

Gaeul stood, seemingly on nothing, high up in the air, at least two and half meters while he caught his breath and though on his feet. The girl was pretty fast on her feet and good at fighting, maybe she really was that Genin trained by the Hokage himself. So far she had shown she was fairly good with projectiles and kept moving in with her sword. She had yet to actually use another direct attack him. She was focused on distracting him or keeping him busy so she could move in with her sword. So… if he could deflect that somehow, he supposed he’d have a better chance since some of this techniques required time, set up, or cover to be fully useful.

Truth be told, he had an idea in mind, he just wasn’t sure if he wanted to use up that much chakra or stamina yet. Ah, what the hell, why not? Going for it, he threw down a score of his own metallic senbon. The first wave essentially being little more than normal senbon to cover him whilst he attached exploding pouches on a few of the remaining senbon before letting them cascade down on the arena below mixed in with regular senbon and some of his own icy senbon.

He hoped she’d be caught off guard, or at least not be able to dodge all of them. He might not be a specialist with weaponry or projectiles, but he knew enough of the basics so that he wouldn’t entirely miss. The odds of her dodging all of the senbon were low really (since senbon were usually harder to see anyway, due to their size and make), and some of them even had exploding pouches on them, so even if she dodged them, seconds later they’d go off (hopefully with her still nearby).

The pouches were small in of themselves, so he found it hard to believe she’d be able to see them from a distance and most ninja he knew of didn’t really use pouches they preferred the tags so there was that chance that she’d never even fought against someone who used pouches to begin with (or maybe even seen them).

Then of course, there were his ice senbon. They wouldn’t cause as much damage as regular senbon, but they were made out of the Yuki Clan’s hyouton ability and be even more difficult to see, given there was faint sunlight and a slight fog still (with some small patches of mist still about). And if they landed, well, hopefully she wouldn’t notice the prickling sensation of cold too soon or think nothing of it. If the senbon stayed in long enough it might actually be able to numb her body some (depending on where it landed of course).

Technically speaking, he could keep up the rain of senbon for awhile, but he only had 25 exploding pouches and he was only willing to use five of his exploding tags. She’d figure out there were explosives soon enough—it was only a matter of being able to detect which senbon were the most deadly. But he hoped that by that time he’d recovered enough to actually face her other than well, projectiles. He really wasn’t much of a close combat kind of guy. Gaeul considered himself to be a support type ninja really, or maybe a long ranged fighter. Then again, he’d never really fought anyone so…

In between the waves he’d apply some of his healing salve onto his wounds. It stung, but it helped ease the pain after a few seconds passed. He’d smell lightly of herbs for awhile—at least until his body’s natural scent took over again when the herbs’ scent faded seeing as it was only a light layer of the salve on top of the visible wounds he could see and reach without giving himself away too much.

By the last of the fourth wave (being composed of ice senbon and explosives instead of the previous metal/ice/explosives or metal/explosives or metal), he had already begun to let chakra reach his senses and was ready to release a flash bomb that should change things to his favor—whether the girl dodged the senbon or not.

After the flash bomb went off, his technique should kick in and he could move in with a direct attack that would hopefully work...

[The village alarms go off and the spectators rush off in a panic. The observing ninja dash off and Renjiro appears by the two ninja cancelling out their jutsu and weapons out.
